Typical high school fic
Sasuke is the most popular guy in school... Overdone much?
So many AU fics are set in high school. 90% of them follow the same damn plot and are never completed.

Gravitation-like band fic *pukes*
Naruto, Kiba and Gaara are in a band! ... SNORE.
I despise these fics. The very idea of Naruto characters beating on drums and playing guitars puts me off straight away.

Masked Naruto fic
Naruto is tired of hiding behind his mask... *insert tear drop*
Hello! Naruto's not a genius. That's why he rocks! He's determined to prove himself worthy, so why would he hide his genius? The whole idea is a ridiculous excuse to change Naruto's personality and appearance.

WTF OCs fic
Janie, Star and Raven are thrown into the Naruto world! ... ¬_¬''
Too many of these for my liking. They're always crappily written and the inserted characters are snore-worthy. Mary Sues. Bah!

Suck-at-summary fic
I suck at summaries LOL ... *cue to ignore fic*
Why do so many people say that in their summaries? It basically translates to "I suck at writing". I never read fics with that bullshit in the summary.

Jesus, I think I'd prefer even SasuSaku over this! Naru, Naruko, etc are shite names. FemNaru sucks. So does girly-uke!Naruto. Naruto does NOT look like a girl.

Barely literate people and the under 12's write shit fanfiction. A few spelling mistakes I can handle, but sometimes it goes far beyond that.

Too-much-fox fic
Naruto is the golden nine-tailed demon fox of legend! ... Bet this fic sucks.
These fics where Naruto is or becomes the 'King Fox' (or whatever) look just plain corny to me. I don't mind Kyuubi, but Naruto as a genius/beautiful hanyou? C'mon! Urgh, and when the author decides to make Naruto's hair long and flowing? *gags*

Naruto is sick of life and being hated, so he cuts himself... ROFL As if!
Naruto would never cut himself. Period. A few of my friends have cut themselves in the past, so I know that it's a fairly common teen issue, but it's completely OOC for Naruto to do something so weak and desperate.

No-real-summary fic
Naruto decides to do something, but why and for who? ... Who cares?
I hate fics with no summary information. Sorry, but I need pairing info if I'm going to read a long-ass fanfic. I don't want to waste my time on a SasuSaku or someshit.
11.
Ebil villagers fic
The villagers try to kill Naruto, so he runs away... Join the masses!
Tons of these about. Some, mind you, actually have a decent plot, but most are unrealistic and badly written. Naruto would not put up with shit from the villagers and he certainly wouldn't let them cheat/rape/beat him. He'd kick ass first.

The fic summaries in this list are written by me and are meant as examples only. They mostly concern the common types of stories found on Fanfiction.Net, when searching for SasuNaru fics.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of stellar fanfics out there, I'm just tired of seeing so many crappy/samey ones popping up in the search results.

Ah, i have OC's but i deffinately put time into them to make them less like mary-sue's and more like original characters. But I agree. Most of the stories are crap recently. And it's wonderful to find awesome ones out there.

Brilliant rant list, it's so true. Sadly enough, back in the day (when I was under 12) I wrote mary-sue stories and now I look back on it and I die a little inside at myself.
Regardless, it's great to see you have an opinion on this and wont fall prey to meaningless plots(and demand good summaries in fanfiction).
Personally, I hate when fanfics have author notes in the story, it kills the mood. But what's even worse is when the author summarizes the story and then goes "Not really sure where it's going but..." or "Maybe change the rating. Not sure yet."
Anyway, great blog; stumbled upon it when looking for Kakuzu and Hidan websites.

the only good high school fic is the one where they are all dreaming about their ninja lives.
there is only one story with lots of OC's that I like and that is because they all have gaping character flaws.

1. You know what creeps me out? A lot of people encourage the high school fics, which is why there are so many crappy ones in the first place. It just makes me want to rip someones head off... Grr.
2. The band fics aren't so bad but they have to have a decent plot and good grammar to really catch my attention.
3. Hmm, the Masked Naruto fic thing IS true. I mean, why would he want to hide that cute face of his? He knows how hot he is and that's one of the reasons he acts arrogant. It isn't a good fic without Naruto at least trying to act arrogant (in my opinion, since it makes the comedy lol).
4. OMG I ABSOLUTELY HATE OCs in Naruto fandom fics. There is a reason it's fanfiction! Hellooooo, the story is supposed to be about the story characters, not the random OCs you make up! Geez. This one makes me want to torture someone.
5. I admit, I don't like writing summaries, but that's what draws the attention of others. When someone says, "Sorry I suck at writing summaries" I just want to bang my head against the wall. I mean, really. Oh, but you know what other types of summaries I hate? When it looks really good but then their grammar suddenly goes crappy and the plot goes dull. It's like, "I spent a day reading THIS?!"
6. Heh, I have to say, Naruto being a princess is kind of funny, like a comedy. But I don't like him being overly...wimpy. That's TOO much OOC for me.
7. Ah. The bad spelling and worse grammar. You know that at least a third of the people write better than that when they're 12 and the others don't care about whether they can write good or not. It's stupid because at least half of the 2/3rds will start posting crap onto FFN. The good people don't start posting until at least fourteen...I think...

9. I think Naruto would do something drastic like...Hmm...I dunno actually. There are so many fics where Naruto goes outside of the village, and though some are good it's also very OOC. Nah, Naruto isn't one to start cutting himself, though a little angst from him isn't bad either.
10. URG! I HATE THOSE TOO! You know what bugs me about those? When people get more reviews with those kinds of summaries than a clearly better fic with a better summary. It just... URGGGG!

Allow me to comment on some of the points you brought up:
1. On FF.Net there are tons of young readers who understand school situations more anything else, so I suppose it stands to reason that there are so many high school fics. I find that adultfanfiction.net generally avoids the hordes of crapfics.
2. I'll admit that I've only ever bothered to read two band fics. One was crappy and badly written and the other was quite a nice PWP. XD You'll hear no complaints from me as long as there's well-written smut!
4. As long as they play small roles, I can put up with one or maybe two OCs in a VERY good fic. Sometimes they're necessary, in order to prevent OOCness in Kishi's characters (OCs also make good filler bad guys). Though I prefer OCs to have quiet and calm personalities. If they're too pushy and attention-seeking they quickly get annoying.
6. Don't get me wrong, I love a good crackfic! XD But there are serious fics out there where Naruto's made to be a helpless, FEMALE, damsel-in-distress - it's just plain insulting. Surely if Naruto WAS a girl he'd be more like tough Buffy than wimpy Olive Oyl.
7. Perhaps I was a little harsh on the kiddies on this one. After all, I wrote some TERRIBLE stories when I was 12 (including one uber-long original story that had NO punctuation). Of course, I didn't DREAM of posting them online. I was smart enough to know they were crap. XD But I've read some very good fics written by young people (14 and 15-year-olds).
9. I LOVE angst. If you ask me, every SasuNaru fic (as long as it's not a comedy/PWP) needs a healthy dose of angst. However, I think having the characters cut their wrists is a lame way to portray depression or loneliness. I suppose if you haven't been there and self-harmed at some point, it's impossible to understand the reasoning behind cutting. Still, it doesn't seem like the kind of thing Naruto would do. He's the kind of character who'll take action and try to resolve his worries and problems. Remember what he said to Inari during the Zabuza arc: "So, you think it's noble to treat everyone around you like they're guests at your pity party? People like you should cry forever, you brat! You crybaby!" Kakashi later explains to Inari that even though Naruto has lived a painful existence, he's not the type to mope and cry about his problems constantly. Kakashi says: "I think one day he must have just gotten fed up with crying". That line kind of sums up Naruto for me; he rose above his loneliness and became strong. This aspect of Naruto's character is so often disregarded in fanfiction.
